Beijing Tong Ren Tang Hosts Launch of Arabic Edition of Illustrated Guide to Medicinal
Materials and Promotes Traditional Chinese Medicine in Abu Dhabi
May 4, 2025 – Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. (BTRT), the sole platform for Tong Ren Tang Group’s international development and a key representative of its brand and cultural outreach, partnered with the Europe and Africa Center of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration to host the launch ceremony for the Arabic edition of the Illustrated Guide to Medicinal Material at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair’s Public Events Center. The event also marked the kickoff of a promotional campaign for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
China’s Ambassador to the UAE, Zhang Yiming, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks, highlighting TCM as a treasure of Chinese civilization that contributes to global health solutions. He described the release of the Arabic edition as a significant milestone in China-UAE TCM cooperation, poised to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Jamal Bin Mohammed Al Rashed, CEO of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, praised the publication as a vital window for Arabic readers to explore TCM’s rich heritage. He noted that the translation not only disseminates knowledge but also fosters expanded scientific and cultural interactions between the Arab world and China.

Edited by Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, emeritus professor at Hong Kong Baptist University’s School of Chinese Medicine, and Professor Chen Hubiao, the Illustrated Guide to Medicinal Materials catalogs over 400 commonly used medicinal herbs. Professor Zhao, speaking at the event, emphasized the book’s global impact, having been translated into 10 languages since its debut in 2010, underscoring the mutual need for TCM in global and local contexts.

Held at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair—one of the largest and most influential book fairs in West Asia and North Africa, organized by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority—the event drew a diverse audience, including TCM enthusiasts, representatives from official organizations, medical and academic institutions, Chinese business leaders in the Arab region, and prominent international media.

Building on this milestone, Tong Ren Tang’s Dubai branch will launch a three-month TCM promotion campaign. Offline efforts include health lectures at retail outlets and TCM clinics, as well as academic courses in collaboration with Dubai Medical University to bring TCM closer to local communities. In the meantime, Tong Ren Tang will enhance its digital presence through the setup of “Global Purchase Mall” e-platform, offering TCM products tailored to the region’s climate and environment, and produce social media content to educate the public about TCM’s unique value.
