(BTRT) and the Uruguay National Meat Institute formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Traditional Medicine Cooperation. This landmark agreement marks a significant step forward in China-Uruguay collaboration in the field of traditional medicine, injecting new momentum into the internationalization of TCM.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Ms. Fan Hong, Director and Union Chair of China Beijing Tong Ren Tang Group Co. Ltd., and Mr. Julio Martín Orlando Chifflet, Chargé d’Affaires of the Uruguayan Embassy in China. The MOU was signed by Ms. Yan Han, Assistant General Manager, Minister of the Publicity Department (Cultural Heritage Center), and Chairman of Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd., and Mr. Gastón Scayola Piedracueva, Chairman of the Uruguay National Meat Institute.

This agreement is the culmination of multiple rounds of discussions and a deepening consensus between the two parties.

In a media interview, Mr. Gastón Scayola expressed his excitement, stating that signing the MOU with Beijing Tong Ren Tang, a 356-year-old TCM leader, was the highlight of his CIFTIS visit. He noted that for Uruguay, with its over 400-year history in livestock farming, this MOU not only promotes the integration of TCM and Western medicine to benefit the local population but also broach a subject of boundless possibilities for future cooperation. He expressed hope that both sides would work together to advance global free trade and multilateralism.

Mr. Julio Martín Orlando highlighted that the participation of the Uruguay National Meat Institute’s Chairman and the signing of this strategic MOU with Beijing Tong Ren Tang will add new impetus to deepening China-Uruguay bilateral relations.

Following the ceremony, the delegation from the Uruguay National Meat Institute and the Uruguayan Embassy visited the Beijing Tong Ren Tang exhibition booth, where they closely examined displays of classic Chinese patent medicines and unique wellness products. The delegation frequently paused to inquire about product efficacy and research concepts, exploring Beijing Tong Ren Tang’s internationalization achievements in regions such as Southeast Asia and Europe. They asked detailed questions about the operational models of Beijing Tong Ren Tang’s overseas branches and the development logic behind localized products, expressing strong approval of Beijing Tong Ren Tang’s deep engagement in global markets and the vibrant vitality and remarkable achievements of TCM on the world stage.

With the gradual implementation of the MOU, both parties are committed to a win-win approach, aiming to enhance the full-process management of traditional medicine raw material exports to China, explore the deep integration of TCM services with Uruguay’s local health needs, and develop more health products with distinct Chinese-Uruguayan characteristics. This collaboration will further elevate TCM’s global presence, allowing it to shine even brighter on the world stage.
