The World Stroke Organization (WSO) started commemorating October 29 as the "World Stroke Day" in 2006, with the intention of provoking public concern on stroke and enhancing public awareness toward its prevention and treatment. In response to the call of the World Stroke Day, Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. (TRTCM) has been annually hosting the Tong Ren Tang Stroke Prevention campaign in Hong Kong as of 2016. As the first large-scale stroke-related event held by a local TCM company, the campaign has been instrumental in strengthening stroke consciousness among the local citizens for years.
The main culprits of stroke occurrence include but are not limited to senility, hypertension, history of stroke or transient ischemic attack, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, smoking, and atrial fibrillation. What's worse, young stroke patients have been on the rise in recent years. Stroke, a cerebrovascular disease, is now commonplace in modern cities and cannot be underestimated due to the ability to induce such life-changing physical disabilities as paralysis, cognitive deficiency, dysphasia, and emotional disorder.
